Cook Strummer's 'Rising' is the superb second single from the forthcoming ‘Words Don’t Come Easy Vol. 7’ compilation and finds the artist “reaching for transcendence, drawing on the inspiration of binary beats, and sketching poems with strobes and flashlights.”
Strummer is a Belgian artist whose music is defined by the right combination of rhythms and melodies, transcended by his own voice. It draws on an evocative blend of the organic and the electronic, a fresh mix of drum machines, guitars and synthesizers and channels his country’s famous cold wave movement but adorned with elements of downtempo, house and progressive.
Now Berlin based, his first album “The Fall” was released in 2018 on LOK Recordings. Since then, he released a well supported EP - “Some Feelings” - on Mood Music records in October 2019, and got early support from Laurent Garnier, Adam Port, Mandy, Ame and many others.
The full range of hardware and synths Stummer has in his studio is used on this lush track 'Rising.' A neat little bass guitar riff is offset by a more airy melody up top. The house beats are deep cut and warm, organic and loose. Poignant spoken words arrive at the mid point to lend the whole thing an air of intimacy and artfulness that makes this such a standout piece of house music.
This is another fantastic teaser of the majestic Words Don’t Come Easy compilation to come.
